Phu Quoc Itinerary: 3, 5 and 7 Days

Plan by area, not by attraction

A cable car cabin crossing the sea to Hon Thom Island

The mistake most first-time visitors make on Phu Quoc is treating it as small. The island is about 50 km from top to bottom, the big sights are at opposite ends, and the drive from the theme parks in the north to the cable car in the south takes 70–90 minutes. So plan each day around one area, and the island becomes easy.

The building blocks are five day-trips. Pick the ones that fit your trip:

Day Area Highlights From Long Beach
South An Thoi, Bai Khem, Sunset Town Bai Khem beach, the prison museum, the Hon Thom cable car, the Kiss Bridge at sunset 25–40 min
North Bai Dai, Ganh Dau, Rach Vem VinWonders, the safari, Grand World, Starfish Beach 40–60 min
Islands An Thoi archipelago Island-hopping and snorkelling by boat 30–40 min to the port
Town Duong Dong Morning market, fish sauce and pepper, Dinh Cau at sunset, the night market 10–20 min
East Ham Ninh, Ho Quoc, the interior Ho Quoc Pagoda, Ham Ninh fishing village, streams and waterfalls 20–35 min

Times are by car from the middle of Long Beach. If you are staying somewhere else, see maps and drive times.

Phu Quoc in 3 days

Day 1 — Town and sunset. Arrive, check in, and spend the afternoon on the beach. At around 17:00 go to Dinh Cau, the rock temple at the mouth of the Duong Dong River, for the sunset, then walk to the night market for grilled seafood. Agree the price per kilo before it goes on the grill.

Day 2 — The south. Morning on Bai Khem, the best beach on the island, then lunch nearby. Early afternoon at the Phu Quoc Prison museum (open 7:00–17:00). Take the cable car to Hon Thom from about 13:30, when it restarts after its midday break, and spend a couple of hours at the Aquatopia water park or on the beach. Come back for sunset at the Kiss Bridge in Sunset Town and stay for the Kiss of the Sea show with its fireworks — see our theme parks guide.

Day 3 — Islands or north. If you came for the sea, take an island-hopping and snorkelling trip from An Thoi — best in the dry season. If you are travelling with children, swap it for a day at VinWonders and the safari in the north.

Phu Quoc in 5 days

Add two days to the plan above:

Day 4 — The north. Start at Vinpearl Safari at 9:00 (go early, before the heat), then VinWonders from late morning — or pick one and do it properly. Finish in Grand World, which comes alive after dark and is free to enter. With older children or no children, swap the theme parks for Starfish Beach and lunch on the stilt restaurants at Rach Vem, then the sunset on Bai Dai.

Day 5 — Duong Dong and the east. Early morning at the Duong Dong market, then a fish sauce factory and a pepper farm. After lunch, cross to the east coast: Ho Quoc Pagoda facing the sea, then crab for an early dinner in Ham Ninh.

Phu Quoc in 7 days

Seven days lets you do all five day-trips and still have two days with nothing planned — which is the point of an island holiday. Use them for:
