About Cua Can Commune
Cua Can commune is one of Phu Quoc Islands smallest regions and its known for its large river bearing the same name. Most visitors to the island usually pass by this area while on their way to the more developed north western region of Ganh Dau, however Cua Can does have some great points of interests worth discovering.
Cua Can River
The Cua Can River in Cua Can Commune is the second largest river system located on Phu Quoc Island, after the Duong Dong River in Duong Dong Town. The river begins at the Phu Quoc National Park and empties into the Gulf of Thailand. The Cua Can River and its tributaries are an important asset in Phu Quoc’s ecotourism development initiative Activities on the river include river sight-seeing, bird watching, and kayaking.
Planning your time
As development in the area ramps up, Cua Can is now more of a day trip destination rather than a place to spend your holidays. Be sure to check out the picturesque wooden bridges and sandbar found at the seaside fishing community.

Cua Can Urban Center
Cua Can Urban Center is a new metropolitan area that is currently under development. It will consist of a mixed residential and commercial area and will be located in the communes interior near the highway DT973.
Làng Chài Cửa Cạn
Làng Chài Cửa Cạn is the fishing village located by the sea. The highlights here are the rustic wooden bridges, the estuary, and the coastal wildlife.
Le Bat
Le Bat is considered the “downtown” of Cua Can, although it is relatively small. There is a post office, a market, a few shops, and guesthouses. Le Bat is located west of the Cua Can Bridge.
Cua Can Riverbanks
The Cua Can River in Phu Quoc is a large but shallow river system found that has put this commune on the map. The river is dotted with many homes, guesthouses, cafes, and some organic farms. It is also home to birds, grasses, crabs, clams, fish, tiny invertebrates, and more.
Vung Bau
Vung Bau is Cua Can’s beach resort area.
BEACHES
Bãi Biển Cua Can
Cua Can Beach is a powdery yellow sand beach highlighted by a sandbar and estuary. It is not an idyllic beach per se but more of a sand dune home to a diverse coastal ecosystem.
Bai Vung Bau
Located across the Duong Dong River in old Duong Dong Town lies Duong Dong Beach. Duong Dong Beach is an urban beach located on the west coast of the island. It is not a beach where most tourists would want to visit as it is a more of a residential beach.

Kayaking
A popular activity on Phu Quoc Island is to kayak down the Cua Can River. There are many Cua Can river kayaking tours available or you can rent a kayak from one of the seafood restaurants located in the area and paddle down the river independently. Visitors can also SUP, stand up paddle board, down the Cua Can river as well.
Fishing
You can fish off the many wooden bridges with the locals or hire a fisherman to take you up the Cua Can River or to the sea.
Bird Watching
In the small pools and along the river you can observe coastal birds. The best time to bird watch is early in the morning.
Wooden Bridges
The wooden bridges are nice to view and take pictures of. They are only accessible by motorbike, bicycle, and by foot.

Accommodations in Cua Can commune are found in by the Cua Can River, Cua Can Beach, and Vung Bau Beach.
Vung Bau Resort
A family run beachfront resort on a great stretch of beach. The owners are extremely friendly, there is a restaurant on site, and you can borrow their kayaks and venture up either the nearby small canal or the ocean. Highly recommended.
