Phu Quoc is bigger than it looks — about 50 km from the theme parks in the north to Sunset Town in the south — and there is no public transport network in the usual sense. Most visitors who do not ride a scooter get around by Grab or Xanh SM electric taxi, and use the free buses run by the island’s two big resort groups. This page covers all of them; if you do want to ride, see our motorbike guide.
Ride-hailing: Grab and Xanh SM
Grab works across the island, for cars and motorbike taxis, and is what most visitors use. Its published Phu Quoc rates (July 2026) for a standard 4-seat GrabCar are 24,545 dong for the first 2 km, then 11,782 dong per km, plus a small charge for time; 6-seat and Plus cars cost a little more, and GrabBike about 4,200 dong per km. The app shows the full price before you book.
- At the airport, Grab moved its pick-up and drop-off points at both terminals in October 2026, and passengers pay a fixed airport fee on top of the fare. Follow the signs to the Grab zone; see Phu Quoc airport.
- Waiting: Grab cars do not usually wait. For a remote beach or a waterfall, agree a return time or book a car for the day.
Xanh SM (Taxi Xanh SM) runs all-electric VinFast taxis: it launched on Phu Quoc in July 2023 with 100 cars and had about 400 by May 2025 (Tuổi Trẻ). Book through the Xanh SM app, by phone (1900 2088) or hail one in the street; they take cash, card and Vietnamese e-wallets. Fares are metered and shown in the app; Xanh SM also sells fixed-price tours by distance.
Gojek left Vietnam in September 2024, so ignore any guide that still lists it.

Traditional taxis
You will also find metered taxis at the airport and outside the big hotels. The island’s largest local company, Nam Thang (“Phu Quoc Taxi”), agreed in late 2023 to switch to VinFast electric cars; Mai Linh is also widely listed. Make sure the meter is on, or agree the price first. For anything longer than a short hop, Grab or Xanh SM is simpler, because you see the price before you go.
Buses and free shuttles
Phu Quoc’s buses are run by the resort groups rather than a city network, and the timetables change, so check the operator’s app or ask your hotel.
- Sun World free shuttle (south and west coast). Since July 2025, Sun Group has run a free bus between Duong Dong and the Hon Thom cable car station in Sunset Town, stopping at Long Beach Center, Salinda, Novotel and Sailing Club among others — about 56 trips a day, every 5–15 minutes, according to Sun World. It is the cheapest way to reach Sunset Town and the cable car.
- VinBus (north). Vingroup’s electric buses — by 2025 all of Phu Quoc’s public buses were electric — run three main routes to Grand World: 17 from the airport, 19 from the Long Beach hotels via the airport, and 20 from Bai Vong ferry port via Duong Dong. They are free if you show a VinWonders, Safari or Grand World ticket QR code. Travel sites report that other passengers have paid a fare since January 2026 (20,000–50,000 dong); we could not find an official announcement, so check in the VinBus app. The airport to Grand World takes about an hour by bus. See VinWonders and Grand World.
- Resort shuttles. Some large resorts run their own shuttles to Duong Dong, the night market or the parks; ask at reception.
Older guides list a public bus “route 11” between Duong Dong, the airport and An Thoi; we found no evidence that it still runs.
Car with driver, and bicycles
- A car and driver for the day is the most comfortable way to see the north or the east coast. Hotels and local agencies arrange them, and Xanh SM sells tour packages by distance (in 2023, 400,000–1,250,000 dong for 35–140 km). Agree the route, the hours and what is included before you set off.
- Bicycles: there is no bike-share scheme; many hotels lend or rent bicycles. The main roads are busy and hot, so they are best for short trips along Long Beach or in the quieter north.
Tips
- Children: since July 2026, children under 10 and shorter than 1.35 m may not sit in the front row of a car; taxis and ride-hailing cars are exempt from the child-seat requirement, but bring your own seat if it matters to you.
- Download Grab before you arrive and set up a payment method; cash is accepted too.
- Night markets and late returns: cars are easy to find in Duong Dong and Sunset Town late in the evening, harder at remote beaches — book your return in advance.
