Phu Quoc’s markets are working markets first and tourist sights second — the best of them are wet markets where the island buys its fish, fruit and vegetables every morning. Here is where they are and when to go.

Market Where Hours (Google Maps, Oct 2026) Best for
Duong Dong Market Duong Dong town, by the river bridge From dawn; busiest before 9:00 The biggest choice of seafood, fruit and local products
An Thoi Market An Thoi town, near the port 7:00–17:30 Fresh fish on the way to the islands or Sunset Town
Ganh Dau Market Ganh Dau fishing village, far north-west 6:30–21:30 The day’s catch straight off the boats
Ham Ninh Market Ham Ninh village, east coast Mornings Crab, and a look at a fishing village
Night markets Duong Dong town centre From about 17:00 Grilled seafood, fruit and souvenirs

Wet markets have no fixed closing time: trading starts around first light, and many stalls pack up by early afternoon once the day’s stock has gone. Go early, wear shoes you do not mind getting wet, and keep 2 or 3 of you together rather than a big group — it is easier for you and for the vendors.

Duong Dong Market

The largest market on the island (Chợ Dương Đông, 4.3 from 420 Google reviews), on Ngo Quyen Street next to the Duong Dong River bridge, a short walk from the night market. You will find fruit grown on the island and shipped from the mainland, meat, fresh and dried seafood, eggs, Vietnamese sweets and household goods, plus a few breakfast stalls serving noodle soup and broken rice. It is a photographer’s dream early in the morning, when the fishing boats unload on the river.

Expect wet floors, strong smells, and scooters riding straight through the aisles. Reviewers who go expecting a tourist market are disappointed; those who go to see how the island shops love it. More about the town in our Duong Dong guide.

An Thoi Market

An Thoi market on Phu Quoc Island

An Thoi, at the southern tip of the island, is Phu Quoc’s second town and the gateway to the An Thoi Archipelago. Its market (Chợ An Thới, 4.1 from 462 reviews, open 7:00–17:30) spills along the street near the port, with fresh fish, fruit and vegetables at local prices. Morning traffic around it is heavy — park a little way off and walk in. It fits easily into a trip to the islands, the Hon Thom cable car or Sunset Town.

Ganh Dau Market

A small market (4.0 from 330 reviews, open 6:30–21:30) in Ganh Dau fishing village in the far north-west, where you buy whatever the boats brought in that day — squid, octopus, crab, prawns, barracuda, cobia. It sees far fewer foreign visitors than the markets in town, so prices are local, and very little English is spoken. Agree the price before anything is weighed.

Ham Ninh Market

Ham Ninh Village, on the east coast, is famous for its crab and its stilt seafood restaurants. Its small market (3.9 from 561 reviews) is the place to buy crab cheaply — come in the morning. Some stalls here also sell dried seahorses and other marine curios. All seahorse species are listed under CITES Appendix II, so skip them, and do not try to take them home.

Night markets

Duong Dong has two night markets: the large Phu Quoc Night Market (Chợ đêm Phú Quốc, 4.0 from 6,610 reviews) between Nguyen Trai and Bach Dang Streets, and a smaller one along Vo Thi Sau Street near Dinh Cau. Both are about grilled seafood picked from the tanks, fruit, peanuts, pearls and souvenirs, and both get going after about 17:00. Prices are higher than in the day markets — agree the price by weight before your seafood goes on the grill. See our night market guide.
