Phu Quoc’s long west coast looks straight out over the Gulf of Thailand, so almost anywhere from Long Beach to the northern tip at Ganh Dau has a sea sunset. Watching it is the island’s evening ritual: people gather on the rocks at Dinh Cau, beach bars fill up, and hilltop terraces are booked out. These are the best places, from town to the far north and south.

Calculated for Duong Dong (local time, UTC+7). Dusk is short this close to the equator: it is dark about 20 minutes after sunset.
The clearest sunsets come in the dry season, December to April, when Phu Quoc gets about 230–260 hours of sunshine a month and few rainy days. From June to October the island gets around 140–170 hours a month and rain on most days, so many evenings are cloudy — though a break in the clouds after a storm can be spectacular. See our weather guide.
In and around Duong Dong
- Dinh Cau, the shrine and lighthouse on the rocks at the mouth of the Duong Dong river, is the classic town sunset spot. Come from about 17:00 to find a place on the rocks; it is busy at weekends. The night market is a few minutes’ walk away for dinner afterwards.
- Chuồn Chuồn Bistro & Bar, on a hillside above town, has terraces looking out over Duong Dong to the sea — 4.3 on Google Maps from 6,165 reviews (October 2026), and one of the most-reviewed restaurants on the island. Reviewers praise the view first and the food second; it is crowded at sunset, so book a table.

Long Beach
The 20 km of Long Beach south of Duong Dong is lined with beach bars, all facing west.
- Sunset Sanato, midway down the beach, is the most photographed: giant elephant sculptures on stilts standing in the sea. You pay to enter the beach — reviewers reported 80,000–100,000 dong in 2025–2026 — and extra for a sunbed. Go an hour before sunset for photos.
- Beach clubs and bars such as OCSEN and Sunset Beach Bar have sunbeds, drinks and music for the evening; see beach clubs.
- Or simply walk onto the sand at any public access point: it is free, and the view is the same.
Ong Lang and the north-west
- Ong Lang, just north of Duong Dong, is a string of small, quiet coves between rocks, with garden resorts and a few beach bars — the calmest place for a sunset drink.
- Bai Dai, by Grand World, has a long beach of soft sand; the public beachfront at the end of Grand World and the beach bars along it give easy access. Combine it with an evening at Grand World.
- Ganh Dau at the northern tip looks out towards the Cambodian coast; see Ganh Dau. Further round, the river mouth at Cua Can has a wild beach and sandbar that locals visit for the sunset.
Sunset Town
Sunset Town at An Thoi was built around the idea, but note that Sun World lists the Kiss Bridge as closed from 17:30 to 20:15 (October 2026) while the evening shows are set up. Watch from the waterfront promenade, the beach or a rooftop bar instead — Times Corner Sky Bar (4.8 from 478) advertises its sunset and fireworks views — then stay for the two fireworks shows.
Sunrise instead
The east coast faces the sunrise. For a dawn start, try Ho Quoc Pagoda and Bai Dam below it, or the fishing village at Ham Ninh.
Tips
- Arrive early. The popular spots fill up well before sunset.
- Bring insect repellent for beaches and gardens at dusk.
- Getting back: cars are easy to find in Duong Dong and on Long Beach; from Ganh Dau or Cua Can, arrange your return before the sun goes down. See getting around.
