Which places on Phu Quoc do people actually photograph? Rather than guess, we counted: the table below ranks the island’s sights by the number of photos visitors have posted on Google Maps (October 2026). The theme parks top the list because they are huge and busy, but the beaches, the Kiss Bridge and the old shrine at Dinh Cau all make the top ten. Below the table: when to go for the best light, and the rules for drones.

Tips for the big ones
The Kiss Bridge. Photo: crosser, via Google Maps
- Kiss Bridge: Sun World closes it from 17:30 to 20:15, so you cannot photograph the sunset from the bridge itself. Shoot the bridge from the beach or the promenade at golden hour, and walk on it in the morning or after 20:15. See Sunset Town.
- Sao Beach: go in the morning for the swings in the shallows, before the beach gets busy.
- Dinh Cau: arrive about an hour before sunset for a spot on the rocks; it is busy at weekends.
- Ho Quoc Pagoda: faces east, over the sea — go early for sunrise and the fewest people.
- The cable car: the ride passes over An Thoi harbour and the islands; Sun World names 10:00–11:00 as the busiest time to go out, so go early or after lunch for an emptier cabin.
For sunsets everywhere on the island, see the best sunset spots.
When the light is best
| Date | Sunrise | Sunset | Evening golden hour |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 December | 06:06 | 17:41 | about 17:11–17:55 |
| 1 January | 06:22 | 17:54 | about 17:24–18:08 |
| 1 February | 06:27 | 18:09 | about 17:40–18:22 |
| 1 March | 06:19 | 18:15 | about 17:47–18:28 |
| 1 April | 06:02 | 18:15 | about 17:47–18:28 |
Calculated for Duong Dong with the NOAA solar equations; An Thoi differs by about a minute.
Close to the equator, the sun drops fast: the good evening light lasts from about half an hour before sunset to a quarter of an hour after. The dry season, December to April, has the clearest skies — see weather.
Drones and professional shoots
- Small drones (under 250 g) flown for fun, within sight and outside restricted zones, do not need a flight permit under the Air Defence Law in force since July 2025 (Đại biểu Nhân dân).
- Heavier drones need a registration, an operator’s licence and a flight permit from the Ministry of Defence, applied for at least 7 days ahead — 12 days near airports — and foreigners need a Vietnamese guarantor (Decree 288/2025; LuatVietnam, 2026). That is not practical for a holiday.
- Fines: flying without registration or a permit is fined, and the drone can be confiscated (VOV, June 2026).
- Phu Quoc airport is close to Duong Dong and Long Beach: do not fly anywhere near the approach path. We found no published no-fly map for the island, nor any special rules for APEC 2027 yet.
- Commercial photography at Grand World needs the management’s approval in advance (Grand World rules); for wedding or commercial shoots at Sunset Town, ask Sun World first.
Be considerate
Ask before photographing people, especially in fishing villages and at temples, and dress modestly at pagodas. On the beaches and islands, leave starfish and coral where they are — see Starfish Beach.
