The short answer: most people fly. Phu Quoc International Airport (PQC) has non-stop flights from Ho Chi Minh City (about 1 hour) and Hanoi (about 2 hours 10 minutes) many times a day, from several other Vietnamese cities, and — since 2025–2026 — direct from Singapore, Seoul, Taipei, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur and Siem Reap, among others. The alternative is the ferry from Ha Tien (about 1 hour 20 minutes) or Rach Gia (about 2 hours 20 minutes) on the Mekong Delta coast, which you reach by bus from Ho Chi Minh City.
If you fly to Phu Quoc directly from abroad and stay on the island, you get 30 days visa-free, whatever your nationality. That rule shapes the best route for many visitors, so read the visa section below before you book a connection.
Flying from within Vietnam
| From | Flight time | Who flies it (2026) |

| Hanoi | about 2 hr 10 min | Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet, Sun PhuQuoc Airways |
| Da Nang | about 1 hr 45 min | Vietjet, Sun PhuQuoc Airways |
| Hai Phong | about 2 hr | Sun PhuQuoc Airways (daily from July 2026), Vietjet |

Ho Chi Minh City is by far the busiest route, with dozens of flights a day across the airlines. Sun PhuQuoc Airways, the Sun Group airline that uses Phu Quoc as its base, started flying in November 2025 and now has more flights on the Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi routes than anyone else, according to schedule aggregators. Bamboo Airways stopped selling scheduled domestic flights in August 2026. From other cities, connect in Ho Chi Minh City. More about the airport, arriving and getting to your hotel: Phu Quoc Airport.
Direct flights from abroad
Phu Quoc’s international network has grown fast. As of October 2026, scheduled non-stop routes include:
- Singapore — Sun PhuQuoc Airways daily since 25 July 2026, Scoot daily, and Vietjet, which launched the route in 2025 at four flights a week. You no longer need to change in Ho Chi Minh City.
- South Korea — Seoul Incheon on Korean Air, Jeju Air, Jin Air, T’way, Eastar Jet, Vietjet and Sun PhuQuoc Airways; Busan on Vietjet and Eastar Jet.
- Taiwan — Taipei on Sun PhuQuoc Airways, Vietjet and Starlux.
- Hong Kong — Sun PhuQuoc Airways (since May 2026), HK Express and Vietjet.
- Thailand — Bangkok Suvarnabhumi on Sun PhuQuoc Airways (daily since August 2026), Bangkok Don Mueang on Thai AirAsia, and Thai Vietjet.
- Malaysia — Kuala Lumpur on Sun PhuQuoc Airways, daily since 1 September 2026.
- Cambodia — Siem Reap on AirAsia Cambodia, three times a week since December 2025.
- China — Chengdu on Sun PhuQuoc Airways; Shenzhen announced from late October 2026.
- Russia — Moscow on Aeroflot from 15 October 2026, plus winter charter flights from several Russian cities sold through tour operators.
From Europe, the Americas and Australia there are no regular non-stop flights; connect through Singapore, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Seoul or a Vietnamese hub. Routes and frequencies change by season — the airport page has more detail — so always check the airline.
The visa rule, and why it matters for your route
Phu Quoc has its own visa exemption: foreigners of any nationality who arrive on the island from abroad can stay up to 30 days without a visa, on Phu Quoc only. According to Vietnam’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this also applies if you change planes at a Vietnamese international airport, such as Ho Chi Minh City, as long as you stay in the international transit area and do not pass through immigration there.
So:
- Flying direct to Phu Quoc from abroad, or connecting airside in Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi on a through ticket: the 30-day island exemption applies.
- Entering Vietnam elsewhere first — for example a few days in Ho Chi Minh City, then a domestic flight — means you need a Vietnamese visa, e-visa or one of the national exemptions, as for the rest of Vietnam.
- Wanting to continue to the mainland after Phu Quoc also means you need a visa or national exemption.
The details, the exemption lists and the traps are on our visa page.
By bus and ferry from Ho Chi Minh City
If you want to travel overland, or you are already in the Mekong Delta:
- Bus to Rach Gia or Ha Tien. Buses leave Ho Chi Minh City’s Mien Tay (western) bus station; operators quote about 5–7 hours to Rach Gia and 6½–8 hours to Ha Tien, at roughly 150,000–350,000 dong for a seat or sleeper and up to about 500,000 dong for a limousine van (operator prices listed on booking sites, September 2026).
- Ferry to Phu Quoc. Fast boats take about 1 hour 20 minutes from Ha Tien and 2 hours 20–30 minutes from Rach Gia; car ferries are slower. All of them land at Bai Vong port on the island’s east coast. Fares, timetables and how to check for weather cancellations: Phu Quoc ferries.
It is a long day — leave early, because the last fast boats sail in the early afternoon — and with flights from Ho Chi Minh City often costing little more, most people only do it for the journey itself or to bring a vehicle.

From Cambodia
- By air: AirAsia Cambodia flies Siem Reap to Phu Quoc direct, three times a week. The 30-day island exemption applies.
- Overland: cross the land border at Prek Chak (Cambodia) – Ha Tien (Vietnam), near Kep and Kampot, then take the ferry from Ha Tien. The Phu Quoc exemption does not cover this route: you are entering Vietnam on the mainland, so you need a Vietnamese e-visa that names Ha Tien as your entry point, or a national exemption. This is the most common visa mistake travellers make — see the visa page. There is no direct ferry from Cambodia to Phu Quoc.
When you arrive
- At the airport: the island is small; Long Beach is about 12 minutes away and Duong Dong 20 minutes by Grab or taxi. See the airport page for drive times to every area.
- At Bai Vong port: you land on the east coast, so allow about half an hour by road to Long Beach or Duong Dong.
- Where to stay: see where to stay on Phu Quoc.
The airport is being expanded for the APEC summit in 2027: a second runway is complete and a new terminal, T2, is due to open in April 2027 (Báo Tin Tức, September 2026).
