An Thoi, Phú Quốc
An Thoi is the port town at the southern tip of Phu Quoc, and the part of the island that has changed most in the last few years. The fishing harbour and the market are still here, but most visitors now come for Sunset Town, the Hon Thom cable car and the best beaches on the island, Bai Khem and Bai Sao. It is also home to the Phu Quoc Prison, the island’s most important historical site.
An Thoi Town
An Thoi (An Thới) is the island’s second town after Duong Dong, and since July 2025 part of the Phu Quoc Special Zone of An Giang Province. Located at the southern tip of the main island, it has the best beaches, the luxury resorts of Bai Khem and Mui Ong Doi, and a coral-fringed archipelago a short boat ride away.
Planning Your Time
Some people spend their entire vacation in one of the few beach resorts found in the region. Most, however, quickly pass through. The An Thoi region certainly doesn’t require much of your time as most of the attractions are near each other. Day trips from other regions are popular however if you have some time, it is highly recommended that you spend half a day visiting the various islands that make up the An Thoi archipelago.

Regions
An Thoi Town
The port town of An Thoi is located at the southern tip of Phu Quoc and it is the gateway to Phu Quoc’s white sand beach as well as the Phu Quoc Marine Park. An Thoi is the the second largest town on Phu Quoc.
An Thoi International Port
An Thoi Port is the island’s main southern seaport, used by cargo ships and island-hopping boats to the An Thoi archipelago. The market (open 7:00–17:30) is a short walk away — see our local markets guide.
Mũi Ông Đội
Mui Ong Doi, the rocky headland at the island’s southern tip, is now almost entirely resort — Premier Village spreads over it — but it is also a national heritage site for the Gieng Ngu (King’s Well) temple next to the villas.
AN THOI BEACHES
Bãi Sao
Bai Sao is the famous white-sand beach of the south-east coast — but read our Sao Beach guide before you go: in 2026 reviewers complain about rubbish and entry fees, and many visitors now prefer Bai Khem.
Bãi Kem
Covered in fine white sand and lined with palm trees, Bai Khem is the upscale beach just south of Bai Sao, home to the JW Marriott, New World and Premier resorts. The vacationers live and play among themselves here. They can stroll through the resort villages and then chose from among dozens of distractions – sports, organized activities and entertainment outings. Many of these things are included in the lump-sum price paid before leaving home.
Bai Dat Do
Bai Dat Do Beach is a wild beach located in the south-eastern section of the of the main island of Phu Quoc in An Thoi Commune. The local people leverage Bai Dat Do as a place to dry anchovies and to enjoy the beach life during the sunrise and sunset hours.
Bai Xep
Urban beach just south of Bai Truong. The Phu Quoc Cable Car does not leave from this beach: it departs from Anh Duong station (formerly An Thoi station) in Sunset Town, An Thoi.
Bãi Ông Đội
A gorgeous beach with coarse white sand and greenish blue sea. Bai Ong Doi is part of the historic Mui Ong Doi cape which is home to a luxury beach resorts as well as the Gieng Ngu Temple (Kings Well).

Phu Quoc Prison
Once a brutal prison camp, the Phu Quoc Prison is now a national heritage site and museum that preserves the island’s war history (4.3 from 9,847 Google reviews; open 7:00–17:00). Allow an hour or two. More in our Phu Quoc Prison guide.

An Thoi Archipelago
The An Thoi Archipelago (Phu Quoc Marine Park) lies off the southern tip of the island just off the coast of An Thoi Town, the Phu Quoc Special Zone’s second largest town. It occupies an area of 38 square miles and consists of 15 islands. The most popular tourist activity are snorkeling, diving, and fishing
Phu Quoc Cable Car
The Hon Thom cable car starts its 7.9 km journey to Hon Thom Island here, passing over the fishing fleet and the smaller islands of the archipelago. The ticket includes the Aquatopia water park on Hon Thom.
Sunset Town and the Kiss Bridge
Sunset Town (4.6 from 5,029 Google reviews) is the Mediterranean-style quarter built around the cable car station. In the evening it fills up for the sunset on the waterfront, the Kiss Bridge — two spans that reach out over the sea and almost touch — and the Kiss of the Sea show with fireworks. It is touristy and built from scratch, but it is also where the south’s best-reviewed restaurants and boutique hotels now are. Our theme parks guide has the details.
Sung Duc Pagoda
A Buddhist temple close to An Thoi Port, known for the path lined with white statues of monks (open 6:00–18:00).
WHERE TO EAT
The south has some of the best-reviewed restaurants on the island (Google rating and reviews, October 2026): Istanbul Bai Kem (Turkish, 4.8 from 4,013), Ann Seafood (4.8 from 3,917) and The Deck (seafood and beach bar, 4.6 from 1,458) near Bai Khem, and Mai Huong (seafood, 5.0 from 1,096) in Sunset Town.
