Làng Chài Gành Dầu
Ganh Dau Village on Phu Quoc Island is a small fishing village located in the north western tip of Phu Quoc and it is known for having a great beach, coral reefs, and also a place where you can see Cambodia.
At Làng Chài Gành Dầu you can stock up on basic supplies along with petrol, water, some food items and also get a haircut before you venture into the Phu Quoc National Park via the Ganh Dau Trail nearby. This village will give you a taste of the lifestyle that was once the norm on Phu Quoc, a place where you will see anchovies drying out in the sun ready for the fish sauce factories, children playing and plenty of fishing boats in the harbor.
There are two pharmacies in town as well as a medical station (Tel: 077384556), just in case you need medical attention.
Ganh Dau Beach
Lang Chai Ganh Dau is blessed with a few beaches as well. The main beach is found along the villages northern shore, while the more popular one is found near the base of Mui Ganh Dau to the east.
What To See & Do
- Observe Local Life: The most enjoyable thing to do here is to ride your motorbike or bicycle down towards the coast where the fishermen are and observe how the locals live. Be warned that the area is littered with garbage.
- Take Pictures: Ganh Dau Village is a perfect spot to take pictures of local life, the sea, and how they both intersect.
- Tour the coastline, view Cambodia, and Snorkel: You can commission a boat (800,000VND for the entire boat) from the beach and tour the coastline. The boat will take you to two snorkeling spots and take you to an area where you can observe Cambodia, which is only 4kms away from Phu Quoc.
- Nguyen Trung Truc Pagoda: You can visit the famous local hero’s shrine.
- Visit Bang Island: You can visit nearby Bang Island which is a great spot for snorkeling. To catch a boat to Bang Island (250,000VND per person) please visit 754 Restaurant located beach side.
- Snorkeling: The ocean here is clear and teeming with coral and marine life. Commission a boat or venture out on your own.
Location
From Duong Dong Town head north along Tran Hung Dao Street and make a left at Bach Dang Street which is next to the Duong Dong river. When you see a small bridge, make a right. This street is called Nguyen Trung Truc street and this street will take you all the way to Ganh Dau village. The alternative way is to make a right onto 30 Thang 4 Street, from Tran Hung Dao, and a left on Hung Vuong Street which will later connect to Nguyen Trung Truc Street.
