February has some of the best weather of the year on Phu Quoc: it hardly rains, the sea on the west coast is flat and clear, and the days are sunny and hot. In 2027 it is also the month of Tet, the Lunar New Year, on Saturday 6 February — Vietnam’s biggest holiday, when the island is at its fullest and most expensive. Come for Tet if you want to see it; if you just want the beach, the second half of February, after the holiday week, has the same weather with fewer people.

Temperature, rain and humidity: the island’s weather station in Duong Dong (WMO 48917), 2016–2024 averages; sunshine: Vietnam’s building climate standard. The sea temperature is an estimate from unofficial sources.
Over Tet 2026 the An Giang weather station forecast light easterly winds and waves mostly under a metre around Phu Quoc — a normal February sea. Rain is rare but not impossible: southern Vietnam had two unseasonal rain events in February 2026 (National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting). The jellyfish season named by the marine protected area runs from April to August, so February is outside it.
Tet 2027: the dates
| 2027 | |
|---|---|
| Lunar New Year’s Eve | night of Friday 5 February |
| Lunar New Year’s Day (Mùng 1 Tết) | Saturday 6 February |
| Official public holiday | Thursday 4 to Wednesday 10 February |
The holiday dates come from the Ministry of Home Affairs (notice of 9 October 2026); private businesses set their own. Valentine’s Day, 14 February, falls on the ninth day of the new year, while the island is still busy.
How busy it gets
Tet on Phu Quoc is crowded. Over the nine-day Tet holiday in 2026, the island received about 365,800 visitors, roughly 93,000 of them from abroad (Báo Văn hóa, February 2026). Phu Quoc airport handled 767 flights and more than 260,000 passengers in those nine days, and on 14 February 2026 it received 50 international flights in a single day, a record since it opened in 2012 (Báo Pháp Luật; An Giang provincial portal).
What that means for planning:
- Flights: Vietnam’s airlines treat 22 January to 20 February 2027 as the Tet peak and began selling tickets in August 2026 (Báo Pháp Luật). Book early.
- Rooms: hotels on the island were more than 90% full in January and February 2026, according to STR data (Tạp chí Tòa án, April 2026). Book months ahead.
- Ferries from Rach Gia and Ha Tien are packed in the days before and after Tet. Do not plan a tight connection — see ferries.
- Restaurants and shops: resorts, theme parks and the big restaurants stay open, but some family-run restaurants, market stalls and shops close for the first days of the new year, and service elsewhere can be slower.
What Tet looks like on the island
In the run-up to Tet, the streets of Duong Dong, An Thoi and Ganh Dau are decorated, and Grand World and Sunset Town put up flower streets and apricot and peach blossom displays, with calligraphy, folk games and áo dài photo sessions for visitors (Tuổi Trẻ News, February 2026).
Fireworks. On Lunar New Year’s Eve 2026, An Giang province set off fireworks at four sites, including Phu Quoc, at about 21:00 rather than midnight (Tuổi Trẻ News). Plans for Tet 2027 had not been announced in October 2026. Sunset Town also put on its own fireworks on Lunar New Year’s Eve in 2025, with three displays in one night (SGGP, January 2025). For more about the festival itself, see our Tet on Phu Quoc guide.
What to do in February
- The islands and the reef: calm seas and good visibility make it one of the best months for island-hopping, snorkelling and diving. Over Tet 2026 the island tours from An Thoi were in heavy demand (Tuổi Trẻ News); book ahead.
- Beaches: the whole west coast is at its best; see the best beaches.
- Sunsets around 18:10 — see the best sunset spots.
- Seafood and markets: some markets slow down over the holiday, but the seafood restaurants are busy — see seafood.
Health
The sun is strong and the days are long: sunscreen, a hat and plenty of water, especially on boat trips. Dengue is not only a rainy-season risk in the region — see hospitals and medical care.
For the months around it, see Phu Quoc in January, Phu Quoc in March and the month-by-month weather guide.
