Phu Quoc is a surprisingly easy island to eat on if you are vegetarian, eat halal or simply want a curry. Phu Quoc now welcomes a lot of travellers from India, and the restaurants have followed: in October 2026 we counted more than 30 Indian restaurants on Google Maps, many of them fully vegetarian, clustered in three places — Tran Hung Dao street in Duong Dong, Grand World in the north and Sunset Town in the south. Halal food is thinner on the ground but exists, and Vietnamese Buddhist vegetarian kitchens (quán chay) serve cheap, filling meals in town.

Below are the best-reviewed places in each group, with Google Maps ratings from October 2026. Read the latest reviews before you go: ratings move, and kitchens change hands.

Indian food

Duong Dong and Long Beach

Most of the island’s Indian restaurants line Tran Hung Dao, the road that runs down Long Beach from Duong Dong, so wherever you stay on Long Beach one is within a short walk or Grab ride.

Grand World

Grand World has its own cluster, convenient after VinWonders or the safari:

Reviewers who are used to Indian food at home are often the ones writing these reviews — a good sign — but expectations vary. If you want it mild, say so; most kitchens will adjust.

Vietnamese vegetarian food

Vietnamese Buddhist cooking has a long vegetarian tradition, and many Vietnamese eat vegetarian on the 1st and 15th days of the lunar month. Look for the word chay (vegetarian) on signs and menus — quán chay is a vegetarian eatery, cơm chay vegetarian rice.

The fish sauce question. Ordinary Vietnamese dishes that look vegetarian are often seasoned with fish sauce (nước mắm) — and on Phu Quoc, the island of fish sauce, even more so. In a non-vegetarian restaurant, say “Tôi ăn chay, không nước mắm” (“I’m vegetarian, no fish sauce”), and expect the safest results at a quán chay.

Halal food

Halal choices are more limited than Indian ones. These places describe themselves as halal or are listed as halal restaurants on Google Maps; we have not seen their certification, so ask if it matters to you.

Large resorts can often arrange halal meals if you ask when you book.
