Hon Thom (Hòn Thơm, “Pineapple Island”) is the largest island in the An Thoi archipelago off the southern tip of Phu Quoc, and today it is almost entirely given over to Sun World Hon Thom: the end station of the record-breaking cable car, the Aquatopia water park, a small theme park and a beach. It is a full, easy day out, especially with children — but do not expect a sleepy tropical island.
Getting there: the cable car
Most people arrive on the Hon Thom cable car from Sunset Town in An Thoi. The ride takes 15–20 minutes over the sea, the fishing fleet and two smaller islands, and at 7,899.9 m it holds the Guinness record for the longest continuous three-rope cable car. - Mind the midday break. Google Maps lists departures from 9:30 to 11:30 and 13:30 to 17:00 (October 2026). Take an early car: queues build from mid-morning, and the last cars back around 17:00 fill up.

What is on the island
The round-trip cable car ticket includes the main attractions; free buggies run between them.
- Aquatopia water park (4.3 on Google Maps from 4,598 reviews, 9:45–16:45) — the best water park on Phu Quoc, next to the cable car station. Most slides open at 10:00. Rides, height rules and tips are in our Aquatopia guide. Bring swimwear and a towel, or pay to rent one; lockers cost extra.
- Exotica Village and the theme park — rides including a wooden roller coaster that reviewers pick out as the highlight. Several also say there are not many rides yet, and that staff were unsure where Exotica opened and when — ask at the station.
- The beach — a stretch of fine sand reached by buggy, with sunbeds and a beach club (Santo Beach Club, 5.0 from 205 reviews). Some visitors in 2026 found litter on the beach and in the water.
- Food — a lunch buffet (one reviewer advises arriving before 12:00 to get a seat), and Sun Kraft Beer Garden (4.8 from 511), where several visitors mention a free beer with their ticket.
Expect construction. Hotels and villas are still being built across the island, and parts of it feel unfinished. The cable car and the water park are the reasons to go.
Tips for the day

- Hon Mong Tay (Fingernail Island) — a tiny islet with a beautiful beach.
- Hon Vong — a long stretch of white sand.
- Hon Dua (Coconut Island) — the closest to An Thoi, with fish farms.
