Phu Quoc has become one of Vietnam’s favourite places for a destination wedding: big beach resorts with ballrooms and lawns by the sea, reliable sunsets in the dry season, and direct flights from much of Asia (see getting to Phu Quoc). In March 2019 an Indian couple flew around 700 guests in on two chartered planes for a multi-day wedding at the JW Marriott, and Indian weddings have been a growing business on the island since (Tuổi Trẻ, 2022).
This guide covers the two things couples ask first: where to hold it, and whether it will be legally valid.
Legal marriage or a ceremony?
Most foreign couples hold a ceremony on Phu Quoc and register the marriage legally at home. Here is why.
In Vietnam, a marriage involving a foreigner is registered by the local People’s Committee — since 1 July 2025, at commune level, which on Phu Quoc means the special zone’s People’s Committee (Decree 120/2025/NĐ-CP). The procedure is designed for a Vietnamese citizen marrying a foreigner, or for foreigners who live in Vietnam, and it takes up to 5–10 working days after the papers are accepted. Both partners must attend in person, and the foreign partner typically needs:
- a certificate of single status (valid for six months if no expiry date is given),
- a health certificate,
- a passport,
- with foreign documents legalised and translated into Vietnamese.
If neither of you is Vietnamese or resident in Vietnam, we could find no official route for two visiting foreigners to register a legal marriage on the island, which is why couples usually do the legal part at home and treat the Phu Quoc wedding as the celebration. Check with your own embassy; for example, the UK government’s guidance explains the affidavit British nationals need for marrying in Vietnam. Vietnamese law does not recognise same-sex marriage.
Resort venues
The big resorts all have wedding teams, beach lawns and ballrooms; prices are by quotation. From the resorts’ own pages:
- InterContinental Phu Quoc Long Beach — beachfront ceremonies for up to 288 guests, a ballroom for up to 700, the INK 360 rooftop bar for up to 180, and private beach villas for small weddings. 4.8 on Google Maps from 8,400 reviews.
- JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay on Khem Beach — beach ceremonies and six event rooms, the largest a 688 m² ballroom seating about 420 for a banquet. 4.7 from 3,526.
- Regent Phu Quoc on Long Beach — beachfront ceremonies and several event spaces. 4.9 from 1,568.
- Premier Village Phu Quoc at Mui Ong Doi — wedding packages on a headland with sea on both sides, for sunrise or sunset ceremonies.
- New World Phu Quoc Resort on Khem Beach and Sunset Sanato on Long Beach are also listed as wedding venues.
For more resorts, see luxury resorts. Independent wedding planners and photographers on the island, such as M Wedding Planner Decor (5.0 from 41), can organise smaller ceremonies at villas, beach clubs or restaurants.
Planning tips
- Season: for an outdoor ceremony on the west coast (Long Beach, Bai Dai), the dry season from November to April is far safer; from May to October the south-west monsoon brings rain and wind. Khem Beach on the south-east coast is calmer in the rainy months. See our weather guide.
- Sunset times run from about 17:30 to 18:20 through the year; plan the ceremony to end before the light goes.
- Guests: book rooms early for the Christmas–New Year period and the Lunar New Year (Tết), the island’s busiest weeks.
- Honeymoon: if you are just celebrating, many resorts arrange room decorations, beach dinners and spa packages for honeymooners and anniversaries.
Venue capacities: resort websites. Ratings: Google Maps, October 2026. Legal procedure: Decree 120/2025/NĐ-CP and Ministry of Justice guidance — confirm with the People’s Committee and your embassy.
